the White Van Man as an Icon

A new initative and website aiming to paint a digital picture of England in the 21st C Icons eventually the resource will be used by teachers in classrooms to help demonstrate our rich cultural herriatige.

One of my images from flickr has been choosen to represent the white van man, so obviously I am quite happy about this and would want anyone to go and vote for it!

Razorlight on Brighton Beach

Razorlight

Last night, as I was on the train home, I over heard a chap talking about a secret Razorlight gig on Brighton Beach. Knowing that Bru (biz partner) is a bit keen on the band, I called him up and said we should go down there. after a bit of checking on the web it was confirmed to be the real Razorlight playing etc… so we headed down via a beer seller.

As you can see from the photo it was a hot evening and it was a full on set up too. Seems Channel 4 were filming it for playing out tonight.

The band were excellent, and having never seen them live before I now like them even more. They played for about an hour with a mixture of songs from their last album and a few from the new including starting with their current single.

all in all a good night.

Dave Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall

Have ticked one of my ‘things i must do’ items off my list…

Tuesday evening a few of us trundled up to the Royal Albert Hall to see the Dave Gilmour gig, for his On and Island tour.

rather than go on at great length, just have to say it was brilliant. Most of the tracks sounded better live than recorded.

from my perspective the second half of the concert was the best as it was all Pink Floyd tracks with Rick Wright supporting him on keyboards.

the first album I ever owned was The Wall and Comfortably Numb has always been my favourite track on that album and the second guitar solo the reason I think I first picked up a guitar…. so I have seen Dave Gilmour play that solo live … nuff said, am a happy boy.

suffice it to say it was a great concert with the RAH acoustics, good light show and a full house of people just as excited as I was.

Ursine Peruvain who likes marmalade sandwiches

I met a real life Peruvian (living in London, but not with the Brown family), the other day, so what did we talk about ? Paddington Bear of course. Funny how something from so long ago really sticks in your memory, everyone around the table could rattle off the key Paddo facts.

  • Bear
  • From Darkest Peru
  • Found at Paddington Station with a note saying “Please look after this bear, thank you.”
  • Likes Marmalade Sandwiches
  • Wears wicked red wellies
  • Great Duffel Coat
  • Scruffy hat that he will not give up
  • Has an endless capacity for getting into trouble. However, he is known to “try so hard to get things right”

Anyway Paddington now has his own entry in Wikipedia and his own website

So Adrian (not sure on Peruvian spelling) was subjected to a whole evening of Paddington trivia (although how can something as important as Paddington be trivial)! poor bloke, but instead of leading us away from bear talk – his girlfriend lead the charge.
