2nd by 18 seconds
Great handicap racing at the weekend, a full 2hrs of intense competition. Due to the misty fogginess we could not always see the rest of the fleet. The boat handled perfectly and we made some good decisions (i.e. not sailing with the fleet) thus finding the tide and wind in our favour, good work Ness. we rounded 2 marks on our own out in front before Wow (one of the fastest boats in our fleet, a J 109) overhauled us, and continued our good form to the line finishing third on the water and second by just 18 seconds on corrected PY! how tight is that ? so as we sat in the bar we were all trying to work out what mistakes we had made as individuals that cost us those 18 seconds!
Next week the Pursuit series starts at SYC, a different format where the slowest handicap boats start first and the winner is the first boat to cross the line, so closer to match racing and instead of sailing purely for boat speed you have to sail against the other boats too.
(no photos from last week as the weather was pretty miserable, but we did not seem to notice it at all on the boat)!
