First Race of the Season

Racing at SYC has started again with the Spring Series. So we took Ocean Dream out for a spin to see how the work on her over the winter (this post ) has affected her.

We have not received our new sails yet so sailing with the old rags was unfortunately the only option we had. Nor have we replaced any of the deck gear yet, but this all must be done before the Royal Escape Race in May.

It was a lovely sunny day with breeze of 18 – 24 knots (so no kite then)! and we managed to get her sailing close to hull speed , ours is approx 8 knots and we had her at 7.1 upwind and 7.3 downwind on white sails. so the hull work we did, over the winter, has paid off.

We came 4th on club PY (no IRC weighing and certificate yet) which in comparison to the end of last season was a great result for us, to be honest we all felt a bit rusty knocking about the boat and some of our drills and positioning could be a lot better.

all in all a good day out on the water
