Bird Flu – dead parrots, French farmers et al

Not the first in this, but anyway.

My first thought at the Parrot with H5N1 was the classic Monty Python dead parrot sketch. (learn more about Monty Python here)

So after laughing a bit, I remembered a lecture I had at Uni (where I studied feeding chickens I think), where the prof said that the last time bird flu got bad it killed more people than the first world war, there is a very good review of what happened in 1918 from the independent.

So do we run scared or stand up confident in 21st Century medicine. (I think that the gov and various experts have not yet made up their mind).

Personally I am sure that a combination of good sense and some decent drugs will sort us out, we can not stop the migration of ducks etc, that will carry the virus here. I am, however looking forwards to the French reaction at home (my folks live in the middle of duck country, everything is duck including the local economy), I reckon there will be some draconian measures laid down by the DSV (French MAFF / DOA) which 90% of French farmers will ignore, while the EU will pay out massive compensation which 100% of the French farmers will take. Ah well. Tempi.

In the mean time check out BayTrader for all things Tamiflu related on EBay.
