the problem with pwning your 1st gen iPhone seems to be ...
it is a bit tricky, much harder than using ZiPhone for example. DFU mode is a bit problematic to get in to ..
from a 2.0 software point of view some things seem to be genuinely slower
- entering SMS
- entering address book
- entering browser
you seem to get the odd freeze in the sw in comparison to before.
Exchange push works great although if you have Mobileme and exchange you will get duplicates of everything.
Remote is magic especially if you have apple tv
anyway if you have a 1st generation iPhone and fancy having the updated software – jailbroken etc then you need to get yourself the latest pwnage tool perhaps the best way to do this is to follow the very good instructions for doing this over at lifehacker
secondly on testing entering DFU mode is not massively easy so this post over at hackint0sh seemed to do the trick for me
anyway best of luck and all the usual caveats apply, i.e. this is not supported by Apple etc etc
