how to unlock BlackBerry devices (if you need to)

these are the instructions for unlocking BlackBerry from their network operator lock (if you have the relevant code)

to get the code you need to ask your network operator (they will need your IMEI).

(See also this article on getting your unlock code)

  1. go to settings
  2. go to options
  3. go to advanced options
  4. go to sim card
  5. Type MEPD (not case sensitive) (you will not see text appear on screen while typing)
  6. Does it say Network active? if so your phone is locked
  7. Hold the ALT Key while typing in MEPE (not case sensitive, and you will not see text appear on screen while typing)
  8. It will say “Enter Network MEP Code, then you type in the 16 digit unlock code,
  9. press in the rollerball to confirm.

Your phone is now unlocked

update if you want to unlock your BlackBerry Storm – get a code (from your network operator or some other options in comments) and see this new article with Storm unlocking instructions

  2. Hi Alex,

I just want to say thanks heaps for the Blackberry unlocking instructions… my flatmate is suitably impressed that I managed to buy a code on eBay and then unlock my own phone!

I had a quick look on your mobbu site… I agree with the idea of community policing too, I noticed the difference when I came to the UK and they are really approachable, even though I only asked silly questions about why their hats are different.

Anyway thanks again for the great service!

    Best wishes,

    Susan

  5. Kish,

If you are a customer of that network then and out of contract, or the particular deal you had with them for that device is over then they should do it. Some times they charge money for it but it should not be too much.

or as Susan and Josh point out above there are several places you can go to buy unlock codes for devices and off you go!

    good luck
